OFA Hip Analysis for Goldens with Major Titles (Pra Listings are at the botttom)
Here we look at OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) Hips -> http://www.offa.org/stats.html
One can download a spreadsheet that contains the following information on all breeds:
Breed, Rank, Number of Evaluations, Percentage of Excellent Hips and Percentage of Dysplastic Hips.
The following two bar charts illustrate the latter percentages for various Retriever Breeds.
(Last update November 2008)
One may also use the online OFA database to see the hip evaluations for individual dogs. That is, if they
were not dysplastic. We have looked at 13885 Goldens who hold major titles thus far. Of these 6074
were not listed in the OFA database. Some of these were born prior to the existence of the OFA
database the rest were not evaluated or were dysplastic. We have found thus far: 460 Excellent, 1721
Fair, and 5630 Good or Normal.
We can not distinguish between those who did not have their hips tested and those who were dysplatic.
However, we do know the grade of those whose hips passed. The following two bar charts show the ratio
of fair hips to excellent hips within various title groups. The higher the bar the more fair hips outnumber
excellent hips within the group.
We have not looked at the hip ratings of all Goldens with major titles but below are those with excellent and
fair hips we have found thus far. In our dataset a "good" rating comprise 70% of all hips that
passed. Moreover, a "Fair" rating does not mean the dog is dysplastic.
