Golden Retriever Obedience Statistics
Helen Smith has graciously allowed us access to her comprehensive database of Golden Retriever Obedience
information. The following calculations were performed using that data. The data are compete through August 2007.
Any errors are, of course, ours.
The AKC keeps statistics on the number of Golden entries in obedience but not on the number of individuals.
Thus 1 dog entered 10 times in Utility can not be distinguished from 10 different dogs entered once. Helen's database
allows one to determine the number of individual Golden Competitors. The alarming decline
in the numbers is obvious.
Now consider a similar computation by obedience class. Keep in mind that one Golden may
be entered in multiple classes thus one can not sum this graph to attain the previous one.
Note the decline in Novice A competitors.
In the next section we consider the distribution of scores by class.
In the bar chart for Novice A scores one sees that judges are more likely to give full points off
rather than half. That is not the case for upper level classes.
